This module is the common starting point for a big majority of the masters’ programs analyzed in both EU and MENA countries. In most cases is presented as an introductory module to set common standards for the understanding of the concept of human rights and its variety of interpretations.

Objectives of the module:

Introducing the concept of human rights and its evolution, bearing in mind the diversity of currents of thought and social and political movements that contribute to articulate the idea of human rights.

Learning the history of human rights and the processes and situations in which they are violated. Relate human rights to conditions, media and historical situations in which they originated and carried out, in order to build a historical foundation of the concept.

Discussing about good governance principles (such as accountability, transparency and participation) in relation to fundamental civil, political, economic, social and cultural rights.
